Steep also was a gigantic playground where basically every inch could be a badass course to race on, and here it feels like tiny playgrounds/prepared courses, spread out over a boring and wasted map that just exists to hold it all together and be open world.Īnd then tons of little details where it just feels rushed and made by people who are there for a paycheck and not because they love playing games. Steep perfectly captured that somber and minimalist experience of being on a mountain, super chill and peaceful between extreme races, and this perfectly captures what having ADHD and a social media obsession must be like.

Plus it’s whole atmosphere is like a tiktok festival. You’re racing the bike and fighting controls, while also playing a second racing game trying to follow the first with the camera. Then you have to not only fight these crappy controls going through tight turns at high speeds, but you have to also control the camera to always be behind you so you can see the next turn. You press the stick and the bike starts to slowly turn after a delay.

Nah it feels like a cheap PS2 game to me.

*Didn't they say it was bigger than STEEP? It's exactly the same size as one of STEEP's three maps. And at the same time close to no feel of gravity physics-wise. Like who even wants that? Now there are barely any holes on mountain sides to fly through, because it wouldn't be realistic. Then I realized: If they went for such an unrealistic arcade gameplay style, why the heck did they think it was a good idea to aim for a geographically semi-realistic virtualization of the seven most popular US national parks melted into one "super vast"* world? They even acted like it was a big selling point, recreating height maps 1:1.

That map offered many possibilities whereas RR's is just unneccessarily crowded with many places that you can't really interact with. You'd think such a "full" map had many opportunities for cool gameplay moments, but just the alps in STEEP had already way more wingsuit obstacles for courses AND even ground for proximity flights.

Was giving the awful wingsuit controls one more shot yesterday and then I noticed something.
